Taking Education Global is designed to help educators understand and feel comfortable with incorporating global issues and higher level learning into their teaching to facilitate effective 21st century learning.

Competency-focused, relies on local decision-making, uses a primarily digital delivery model, includes both traditional and blended professional development, and engages educators to synchronously co-develop top quality programs that fit individual needs and meet a wide array of curriculum objectives.

Our Stakeholders

For Students:

Our Global Encounters Video Conferences provide engaging learning opportunities on current global issues, aligned to a variety of subjects and curriculum areas. Every academic year, Global Encounters hosts events that connect students to their global peers and experts from the field to have a conversation on the topic and issue on hand.

TakingITGlobal’s Guides to Action and Sprout Social Innovation e-Course also provide students with robust support for developing innovations into community-based solutions.

For Parents:

Our Learning with Technology and "What the Tech?" events help schools engage parents in a conversation around the future of learning, ensuring they are partners in their children's learning and understand how educators are shifting practices to meet their needs.

In the coming year, we plan to offer French and English parent conferences with the RCMP, offering opportunities for live interaction between parents across the country on key topics.

For Educators:

We offer a variety of professional development offerings customized to meet the needs of participating districts and schools. In addition to traditional in-person professional learning, our accredited online courses support educators in the development of projects that connect with their curriculum objectives and support the values of global citizenship, environmental stewardship, and student voice.

A 2013 study of the impact of these courses on educator attitudes and skills produced strong evidence of their efficacy, and key highlights are available upon request.

For School Leaders:

We have developed Future Friendly Schools, a global network, certification and diagnostic tools for leaders and their teams to celebrate strengths and identify opportunities for improvement in their school culture. The program is focused on the values of global citizenship, student voice, and environmental stewardship.

It emphasizes Project-Based Learning (PBL) and the authentic use of Information & Communication Technologies (ICTs). Each participating school receives an interactive digital portfolio of their evidence and practices to share with their community, and an analysis of survey results providing recommendations to strengthen areas of opportunity.
